Fintura SimplePay integration
Pull a client's payroll totals onto their EMP201, so nobody retypes PAYE, UIF, SDL and ETI figures off a payroll report.
What is the Fintura SimplePay integration?
The Fintura SimplePay integration is a read-only link between Fintura's tax module and SimplePay that brings a client's payroll totals for a period onto their EMP201. You open the return, choose Import from payroll, and the figures arrive filled in for you to check rather than typed in by hand.
Nothing travels the other way in any part of the product, so your payroll team keeps sole control of the run and a Fintura user cannot alter it by accident.
What syncs, and in which direction
Every row is what the SimplePay connection does today.
| Data | Direction | When | What happens |
|---|---|---|---|
| PAYE, UIF and SDL amounts | SimplePay to Fintura | On Import from payroll, per period | The period's totals land on the EMP201 for the client and payroll company you mapped together. |
| The ETI block | SimplePay to Fintura | On Import from payroll | The employment tax incentive amount comes across with brought forward, utilised and carried forward, not only the figure for the month. |
| PAYE and UIF reference numbers | SimplePay to Fintura | On import, only where Fintura holds none | A blank reference is filled from SimplePay, and a reference you have already set is never overwritten. |
| ETI compliance warning | SimplePay to Fintura | On import, where SimplePay raises one | The warning arrives as a soft flag on the import result, so you see it before you submit rather than afterwards. |
| Client to payroll company mapping | In Fintura | On setup, and whenever you change it | Each Fintura client is linked to the payroll company its figures sit in, which is what tells an import where to look. |
| The return total | In Fintura | On import, and on every edit | Fintura works the total out from the imported figures rather than copying it, which is what keeps penalty and interest editable. |
How you would use it
Connect SimplePay
Tax, then Integrations, then Payroll Connections, then Connect SimplePay. Paste in the key SimplePay issues you, and label the connection if your firm runs more than one payroll account.
Map clients to payroll companies
On the Client Payroll Mapping tab, link each Fintura client to the payroll company holding its figures. A client nobody has mapped has nothing to import from.
Import once the run is closed
Open that client's EMP201 for the period and choose Import from payroll. PAYE, UIF, SDL and the ETI block populate, with any ETI compliance warning shown alongside them.
Check, adjust, submit
Read the figures against the payroll report, add penalty or interest where the period needs it, then submit. Fintura recalculates the total rather than trusting a copied one.
What it does not do
- Never writes to SimplePay. The connection is read-only in every part of the product, so nothing Fintura does can change a payroll run.
- Does not pull employees, payslips or leave. It brings across the figures an EMP201 needs and nothing else.
- Does not run payroll. SimplePay stays your payroll system and Fintura replaces no part of it.
- Does not sync on its own. A person opens the return and chooses Import from payroll for that period.
- Does not return the SDL reference number. Enter it yourself on the client's tax configuration screen.
- Does not return the ETI employee count. Fintura leaves that to you rather than guessing at it.
- Does not populate EMP501 reconciliations.
- Does not pull historic periods in bulk. Each period is imported on its own.
- Does not overwrite a PAYE or UIF reference number you have already entered.

Frequently asked questions.
What South African firms ask about SimplePay in Fintura.
No. The connection is read-only in every part of the product, so Fintura can read a period's totals and can never write, amend or delete anything in SimplePay. Your payroll team keeps sole control of the run, and a Fintura user cannot touch it by accident.
The figures an EMP201 needs. PAYE, UIF and SDL amounts for the period, the full ETI block of amount, brought forward, utilised and carried forward, plus the PAYE and UIF reference numbers where Fintura is not already holding them. Where SimplePay raises an ETI compliance warning, that is carried across as a soft flag so you see it before you submit.
Yes. A workspace can hold several SimplePay connections, each with its own label, which suits a firm that runs separate payroll accounts for different groups of clients. Each Fintura client is then mapped to the payroll company its figures live in, so an import always knows where to look.
No. Nothing arrives on a schedule and nothing streams across on its own. Somebody opens the client's EMP201 for a period and chooses Import from payroll, and that period's figures populate. Older periods are imported the same way, one at a time, rather than in bulk.
No. Employees, payslips and leave stay in SimplePay. Fintura holds the period totals an EMP201 needs, the ETI block and the reference numbers, which is deliberately the smallest amount of payroll data that does the job.
